Over 45 years of excellence!
This is what we do, so we have to get it right!
For over 45 years we have been passionate about medical administration and management. This passion has driven a core suite of training courses to ensure you get the vocation we so love.
Back in 1983, two medical secretaries founded the British Society of Medical Secretaries and Administrators as a membership organisation whose sole purpose was to support fellow medical secretaries in their role.
The society over the following years moved into training and developed a range of courses to support the role and those working in other medical administration roles.
In 2009 City and Guilds created the accredited medical terminology courses we delivered for over 15. City and Guilds stepped away from medical administration in 2025. We still delivered the modern version of this course, providing learning direct to the NHS and private health sector, alongside self funding individuals looking to embark on a medical administration career. We were one of the first training companies accredited to deliver City and Guilds courses and still do, to the highest standard today.
Sad news!
Unfortunately over the past few months we have had reports that one of our competitors has felt the need to misinform potential learners about the course requirements needed to enter the NHS administrational workforce. As a direct supplier to the NHS and one of only two training organisations actively promoted by the NHS for the qualifications we provide, we are truly saddened that a fellow training organisation feels the need to try and disparage other businesses by providing inaccurate information to potential learners. We are of course looking into this from a legal stance currently and hope that they improve their ethical operational practices. All BSMSA courses are fully recognised within the NHS and learners do not have to obtain a very specific organisations accredited stamp of approval to gain a post within the NHS. We hope this training organisation has a clear look at their ethical marketing and sales practices. We all offer different course deliveries and support for all learners and there is room for us all, but honesty with learners regarding your courses should be paramount.
